The Daily Dental Glow-Up: What I Do Each Morning (Inspired by Dr . Seb)

I recently stumbled across Dr Seb, a biological dentist whose approach to oral health has genuinely transformed how I think about dental self-care. It all started with a podcast episode a friend recommended (on a completely different topic!). The title of one episode caught my eye, so I hit play (click here to listen to it) – not expecting it to completely shift my perspective. But that’s exactly what happened.

Years ago, I used to oil pull, but I honestly don’t know why I stopped. After listening to Dr Seb’s insights on oral health, something just clicked. I’m now back on the oil pulling train, but this time with far more intention + a few new rituals added to my routine.

1. Oil Pulling with Coconut Oil

Oil pulling isn’t new, but Dr Seb’s explanation made me see its importance in a new light. Using high-quality coconut oil first thing in the morning helps to gently detoxify the mouth by drawing out bacteria + toxins, improving oral hygiene + freshening breath naturally.

Take about a tablespoon of coconut oil + swish it around your mouth for 10–15 minutes. Make sure to move it between your teeth + all around your gums. Don’t swallow the oil, as it contains toxins pulled from your mouth. When you’re done, spit it into the bin (not the sink to avoid clogging), then rinse your mouth with warm water. I like to do this as a habit stack to keep it effortless.

2. Tongue Scraping

Next up, tongue scraping. This simple yet powerful step removes bacteria + built-up residue from the tongue’s surface, supporting fresher breath + a healthier mouth overall. It’s a small act that yields big benefits, and I love how clean it makes my mouth feel after oil pulling.

Using a tongue scraper (copper is recommended), gently scrape from the back of your tongue forward, applying light pressure. Repeat this 3–5 times, rinsing the scraper between each pass. This removes the white or yellow coating that can harbour bacteria.

3. Flossing

Dr Seb highlights how important it is to clean between teeth to prevent plaque build-up + gum disease, and doing so before brushing.

4. Brushing with Gutology Mineral Toothpaste

Finally, I have started brushing with Gutology Mineral Toothpaste. Dr Seb recommends Gutology because it’s fluoride-free + formulated with hydroxyapatite, a mineral that helps remineralise teeth + reduce sensitivity. It also contains probiotics to support the oral microbiome, aligning with Dr Seb’s holistic approach to dental health.

Why This Order + Why It’s Flexible

Dr Seb suggests this order for maximum benefit: oil pulling first to detoxify, then tongue scraping, flossing, and brushing to clean + nourish. That said, he emphasises it’s not a rigid prescription. The key is consistency + intention, so feel free to adapt the routine to what feels best for you.

The Products I’m Using

These are the products Dr Seb recommended, which I ordered from Healf.

  • Super Teeth Prebiotic Soft Floss

  • Gutology Mineral Toothpaste

  • Urban Veda Tongue Scraper

This routine goes beyond surface-level cleanliness. It’s about supporting the mouth’s natural ecosystem, reducing inflammation, and promoting overall wellness. Each step plays a part in balancing oral bacteria, protecting gums, and strengthening teeth.

If you’re curious about a mindful, holistic approach to dental self-care, I highly recommend exploring Dr Seb’s work + listening to the episode. I hope it inspires you as much as it has me!
