Body Brushing + Nourishing Moisturising Rituals

In today’s fast-paced world, taking time for mindful self-care feels more essential than ever. For me, caring for my body — inside + out — is a sacred practice rooted in respect, kindness + ahimsa, the yoga philosophy of non-harm. It’s about honouring the gift of this body with gentle, nourishing rituals that support its health + vitality.

Recently, I’ve re-evaluated what I apply to my skin. I’m committed to being conscious about every ingredient I bring into contact with my body. That’s why I’ve shifted away from exfoliating products loaded with unnecessary additives, + instead, I’ve returned to a simple yet profoundly effective ritual: body brushing followed by deep moisturising with organic shea butter.

Why Body Brushing?

Body brushing is a centuries-old practice that stimulates circulation, encourages lymphatic drainage, + gently exfoliates the skin — all without harsh chemicals. By brushing the skin with a natural bristle brush before showering, it helps to remove dead skin cells, invigorate the senses, + prepares the skin to fully absorb nourishing moisturisers.

How to Practise Body Brushing

  1. Choose a natural bristle brush with a comfortable handle.

  2. Start at your feet + brush upwards towards your heart, using gentle, circular motions.

  3. Brush all parts of your body, avoiding sensitive or broken skin.

  4. Brush for 5-10 minutes, focusing on areas prone to dryness.

  5. After brushing, take a warm shower to rinse off exfoliated skin cells.

Nourishing with Organic Shea Butter

After body brushing, I’ve started applying organic, unrefined shea butter to seal in moisture + deeply nourish my skin. I’ve been loving the Fushi Wellbeing Shea Butter, which is:

  • Intensely nourishing: It’s rich, creamy, + packed with nutrients that replenish + soften the skin.

  • Pure + natural: Unrefined + minimally processed to keep all the skin-loving benefits intact.

  • Ethically sourced: Handmade by a women’s cooperative in Ghana, supporting community empowerment.

This shea butter leaves my skin feeling deeply hydrated + silky smooth — without any unnecessary additives or synthetic ingredients.

The Gift of Mindful Skin Care

To me, this ritual isn’t just about skincare — it’s a way to practise ahimsa by caring for my body gently + intentionally. It’s a daily reminder that taking care of ourselves is a privilege + an act of love. By choosing simple, natural rituals like body brushing + organic moisturising, we honour our bodies in the kindest way possible.

If you’re looking to shift your skincare routine to something more mindful, I highly recommend giving body brushing + organic shea butter a try.
