Surrender: Releasing What You Can’t Control + Reclaiming Your Energy
Our energy + time are two precious resources.
And we know this.
But sometimes we live life like we’ve forgotten.
Life can get so, well, busy + messy. Time feels like it’s running away from us, and before we know it, we’re spending our precious energy trying to control things that simply aren’t within our control.
And that is exhausting.
Recognising where we’re trying to control, micromanage + relentlessly grip something that is completely outside of our control can be incredibly liberating.
Because we can stop throwing energy at something that isn’t going to change.
Surrender truly isn’t a weakness. In fact, it can take an enormous amount of courage + strength to loosen our grip, accept what is, and redirect our energy elsewhere.
It is a bold, empowering act of energy management.
After all, our energy management is no one else’s but our own.
But then there are the other areas of our lives.
The things we think we can’t change.
Perhaps it’s something that isn’t flowing quite right. A daily habit. A relationship with ourselves. A situation we’ve become accustomed to. The things we tell ourselves are simply ‘the way it is’ or that we have no choice.
Sometimes we trick ourselves into believing we’re stuck.
Sometimes we settle for less than we deserve because changing something feels too difficult, uncomfortable or inconvenient.
And yes, there will always be things we cannot change.
But there is also so much that we can.
It might be something really small.
Choosing a different thought.
Making a different choice in the moment.
Putting down our phone + picking up the book we keep saying we don’t have time to read.
Saying no.
Saying yes.
Creating a boundary.
Asking for what we need.
Taking one small step towards something we’ve been putting off.
And sometimes the change isn't something we can make right now.
But perhaps we can begin with the belief that change is possible.
That distinction feels important.
Because surrender doesn't mean becoming passive. It doesn't mean deciding that everything is out of our hands.
It means learning to recognise the difference between what is ours to influence + what isn't.
This theme can be quite confrontational with ourselves.
I know from personal experience that I can get quite defensive with myself — honestly, sometimes the conversations I have with myself!
But when we go a little deeper, when we slow things down + give ourselves the space to see the bigger picture, we can sometimes discover something different.
A little more choice.
A little more perspective.
A little more power than we thought we had.
And perhaps this is where surrender becomes less about letting go + more about redirecting.
Releasing the energy we’ve been spending on what we cannot control...
and bringing it back to ourselves.
Back to what we can influence.
Back to what matters.
Back to the choices we can make.
Because when we stop wasting our energy fighting against what is, something starts to shift.
Our energy can flow again, rather than becoming stagnant.
We create space.
We breathe a little easier.
And perhaps, with that space, we can finally see the woods for the trees.
Surrender
This is what we are exploring inside the Inspired Club with our theme, Surrender.
Not giving up. Not becoming passive. Not deciding that everything is out of our hands.
Instead, an invitation to notice where we’re holding on too tightly, where we’re spending energy trying to control what we cannot change + where we may have more choice than we realise.
Because sometimes surrender is about loosening our grip.
And sometimes it’s about remembering that we are more powerful than we think.
Release. Reclaim. Respond.
And perhaps, with a little more space, allow your energy to flow towards what truly matters.
