My Healthy Hair Journey + Why I’m Loving Champo’s Ayurvedic Haircare
Two years ago, I decided I wanted to go back to being as blonde as I could be — the bright, creamy, all-over blonde that only a full scalp bleach can give. I’d always loved the look, but every time I’d tried it in the past, I ran into the same problem: breakage, dryness + hair that simply wouldn’t grow.
At one point, I even considered getting hair extensions to achieve the Daenerys Targaryen blonde look I’d always dreamed of. I could usually get the colour — that bright, icy blonde — but never the length. My hair would always snap, thin out, or just refuse to grow past a certain point.
I wasn’t ready to give up on that vision, so I put it on my vision board, committed to doing things differently this time + manifested it.
This time, I was determined to do things differently — to have the blonde I loved without compromising my hair’s health. I wanted long, healthy, nourished hair, even with a full head of bleach.
So after sharing my vision with my hairdresser, we made some changes, Carla (my hairdresser) empowered me with the knowledge of how to care for my hair, I got intentional with my haircare, + my healthy hair journey began.
Together, we made important changes to how I care for my hair:
A diet focused on the nutrients healthy hair needs.
Truthfully, I’d never really stopped to think about what hair actually needs to be healthy. Once I did, I started to nourish my body from the inside out — giving my hair the building blocks it had been missing.High-quality hair products.
Before, I’d just grab whatever was on offer — often cheap + drying. Now, I double cleanse with shampoo, then leave my conditioner in for a few minutes, combing it through gently before rinsing. It’s simple, but intentional.Washing my hair twice a week.
I used to sometimes go an entire week without washing it. Now, I’ve found a rhythm that feels clean + manageable without over-stripping.Ditching my straighteners for a hairdryer.
A lover of the ‘90s sleek, straight look, I used to regularly abuse my hair with my GHDs — not realising that heat damage happens fast once it passes a certain point (again, it comes down to education). My hairdresser encouraged me to invest in a better alternative, and after lots of research, I went for the Dyson Airwrap (click to watch a video about this). No more tight bobbles.
I loved the tight, scraped-back look — but the constant tension wasn’t doing my hair any favours. I swapped bobbles for claw clips + gentler updos.Regular trims.
I used to be very hesitant about trims — I thought holding onto split ends meant I was keeping length. Nope. Oh, nope.
The first cut of this journey was a big one: we levelled off all the dead, uneven ends (a fair few inches came off), and the snapped front sections were shaped into bangs. It was a strategic cut — and I actually liked the look. I still wanted long hair, but for the first time, it looked healthy — and that made all the difference. And of course, my hairdresser’s magic.
Every appointment is filled with care, intention + pure talent. Carla has been such a big part of this journey — I’m so grateful.
I couldn’t tell you exactly which step above makes the biggest difference… but I can tell you this: I wouldn’t stop any of them. Together, they work like a team — each one supporting the other, creating the results I used to only dream about.
One of the biggest lessons in this journey has been patience. Hair takes time to grow — and often, the magic is happening long before you can see any visible results. It’s about showing up even when nothing seems to be changing. Sticking with your intentions. Having a strategy, a system that supports your goals — then trusting it. That’s the real work. The combination of action + belief is powerful. It’s manifesting in motion.
Two years later, I’m honestly amazed — not only by the length of my hair but by its health. It has never been this long + healthy before.
Now, my focus is on maintaining my hair + looking after it the best way I can — and brands like Champo help me do exactly that.
Why I’m Loving Chāmpo’s Ayurvedic Haircare
When Champo reached out, I was drawn to their plant-powered range inspired by Ayurveda. Their approach honours the ancient wisdom of balance + harmony — ideas that deeply connect with my yoga practice + lifestyle.
After taking their hair Dosha test, I discovered I’m a Vata type, meaning my hair needs a perfect balance of hydration + nourishment to thrive.
These products provide that ideal balance of gentle cleansing + hydration to soothe dryness and brittleness common in Vata hair. The shampoo softly cleanses without stripping natural oils, while the conditioner deeply nourishes + helps detangle, leaving my bleached hair feeling soft, smooth, + manageable. Together, they create a foundation of care that perfectly complements the growth serum — supporting my hair’s health from root to tip.
Their blend of oils, butters + plant extracts truly transforms dry, damaged hair into soft, smooth + full-of-life strands. I especially love their conditioner that doubles as heat protection — such a clever, practical feature.
From the very first use, I couldn’t believe how soft my hair felt. It’s never felt this soft straight after washing — especially with a full head of bleach.
After trying the growth serum, I’m now committed to including the Champo Pitta Growth Serum in my routine because it targets the scalp — something I haven’t focused on before but know is essential for my goals. The serum is clinically proven to instantly volumise roots while stimulating the scalp for visibly thicker, fuller, + stronger hair. Its formula, containing caffeine, creatine, + Ayurvedic Haritaki extract, reduces hair loss, breakage, + shedding — with clinically measured improvements in thickness + volume after twelve weeks. Light, non-greasy, + daily-use friendly, this serum feels like the perfect next step in my haircare strategy — tapping into scalp health to complement everything else I’m doing with intention, nourishment, + trust.
