Chair Yoga + Inclusive Yoga: Making the Practice Accessible for All
I’m a big believer that yoga is for all. When I talk about yoga here, I mean living a life inspired by yoga. Personally, I practise much more yoga off the mat than on it. This philosophy underpins the work I do + share, particularly through the Inspired Club.
Yoga isn’t just about physical postures. There are eight limbs to the practice of yoga, yet most people are only familiar with the physical aspect—asana. Unfortunately, this can make yoga feel exclusive, leaving many feeling it isn’t 'for all'.
I often say: "Yoga is so much more than the physical." And it truly is. The intention of yoga asana is to prepare the body for stillness, not to perform complicated poses or show off flexibility. While handstands, wild things + warriors can be part of a practice, they are not the only way to achieve yoga’s intention.
Sadly, many asana styles are not accessible to everyone, often excluding those who are not able-bodied. I’ve contributed to this type of content myself in the past, and I want my teaching to be inclusive.
Chair Yoga: Accessible + Supportive
To make the physical practice of yoga more accessible, I created a Chair Yoga series. These sessions are designed for everyone, using a chair for support to ensure comfort + stability.
- Free access: All sessions are available on my YouTube channel.
- Inclusive design: While no practice can truly be 'for all', this series makes yoga more accessible to a wider range of people.
- Supportive practice: Gentle, mindful movements help release tension + promote relaxation.
These sessions focus on slow, intentional movements. By listening to + respecting your body, you can use the practice to care for both your body + mind. Chair yoga can help you:
- Improve flexibility
- Reduce stress + tension
- Feel grounded + calm
- Take a mindful break in your day
If you know someone who would benefit from these practices, I’d love for you to share the videos—wellness is better when it’s shared.
Yoga Beyond the Mat
The Inspired Club also offers practices that don’t require stepping onto the mat, including:
- Yoga philosophy
- Meditations
- Affirmations
- Journaling
Whether you’re looking to start your yoga journey, reconnect with your practice, or explore yoga-inspired living, there are tools here to support everyone, regardless of mobility or experience.
